In July, 2018, the First Avenue Institute again hosted 20 girls for a 1 week Tech camp focused on increasing their awareness of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields. This being our fourth year of hosting the camp, we decided to expand the programme and recruit candidates from underprivileged schools in the Limpopo province. The girls were exposed to many areas of science and engineering and also learnt valuable life skills such as presentation skills. The programme would not have been possible without the assistance from the University of New Hampshire College of Science and Engineering and Technolab (University of Johannesburg). We also thank Meisie Maredi and Shirley Mabasa from First Avenue for their leadership in coordinating the camp. Videos of the camp are included below.
